Summer is probably the season that Les Gets is most well known for, which is surprising for a ski resort! It is a busy time with plenty of visitors, from mountain bikers to families with children. The town really comes alive from June onwards till it begins to get quieter again by the end of August.

Summer is usually warm and sunny. There are occasional thunder storms and rainfall but mostly it stays sunny. This is perfect for the summer activities in and around the town. The temperature can regularly rise into the 30s. One effect of the mountain climate is that the weather can change quickly and with little warning, so always check the forecast

Summer runs from late June to mid September. This coincides with the opening of the lifts for the mountain biking season.

Summer activities in Les Gets

The summer activity that has really made a name for Les Gets is mountain biking. It has previously hosted the mountain biking world championships, the biggest event in the biking calendar. It also hosts the Crankworx mountain bike festival and French national races. There is a reason for this exposure - Les Gets is world renowned as one of the first mountain resorts to really adopt mountain biking and has held on to its reputation. From the popular Chavannes runs to the less busy tracks on Mt Chery and the secret tracks that only the locals know there is something for everyone. As well as mountain biking there is also plenty of hiking, a golf course and a small lake. There is also plenty of road biking.

When do the lifts open?

The lifts open for mountain bikers and hikers for the weekends towards the end of May. They then open throughout the week from early to mid June. They usually close around early to mid September as summer comes to an end.

Does it ever snow in summer?

It is very rare for it to snow in Les Gets in summer, even on the higher peaks as they are not particularly high. By the end of summer the temperature will start to drop.
